About this tool
A Unix timestamp counts seconds since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970, ignoring leap seconds. JavaScript and many APIs use milliseconds instead; "Auto" treats numbers above 100 billion as milliseconds. Dates entered in the picker are read in your local time zone.
Systems that store timestamps as signed 32-bit integers overflow on 19 January 2038 (the "Year 2038 problem"); 64-bit timestamps do not have this limit.
Good to know
- Leap seconds are not represented (as in Unix time itself).
- Local time uses your device's time zone setting.
