About this tool
URLs can only contain certain characters, so spaces, accented letters and symbols are written as % followed by two hexadecimal digits. A space becomes %20, and "é" becomes %C3%A9.
- Value / component encodes everything except letters, digits and
- _ . ! ~ * ' ( ). Use it for a single query value or path segment. - Whole URL keeps characters that give a URL its structure (
: / ? # & =), so you can encode a complete link. - Form is like component encoding, but spaces become
+, as HTML forms send them.
The inspector shows the protocol, domain, path, each query parameter (decoded) and the fragment. It flags common tracking parameters (utm_*, fbclid, gclid, msclkid and others) and gives you a clean link without them.
Good to know
- Decoding assumes UTF-8, the standard for URLs. Very old links in other encodings may not decode.
- The inspector does not visit the URL. It only analyses the text.
