How to use it

  1. Choose a PDF.

  2. Type the watermark text and adjust size, opacity, angle and colour.

  3. Select "Add watermark" and download.

About this tool

A watermark discourages copying and makes the status of a document obvious. It is drawn over each page with the transparency you choose, so the content underneath stays readable. Tick "Repeat across the page" for a tiled pattern that is harder to crop out.

Note that a watermark is a deterrent, not protection: someone with PDF editing software can remove it. For strong protection, share documents only with people you trust.

Good to know

  • Latin characters only (the built-in PDF fonts do not include Arabic, Chinese or emoji).
  • Watermarks can be removed by someone with PDF editing software.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add CONFIDENTIAL to every page?

Type CONFIDENTIAL, keep the diagonal angle and about 25% opacity, and select "Add watermark".

Can I watermark only certain pages?

Yes. Type the pages in "Only these pages", for example 1-3.

Can I use an image or logo as the watermark?

Not yet; this tool adds text watermarks. Image watermarks for photos are available in Watermark image.
