About this tool

The timer counts down and plays a short tone when time is up (turn your volume on). The stopwatch measures to a hundredth of a second, with lap and split times. The pomodoro timer alternates 25-minute focus sessions with 5-minute breaks and a longer break after every fourth session, a technique developed by Francesco Cirillo for steady, focused work.

Time is measured from your device's high-resolution clock rather than by counting ticks, so it stays accurate even if the browser slows the page in a background tab.

Good to know

  • The alarm needs sound on and the tab to stay open (closing it stops the timer).
  • Some phones pause pages when the screen locks.

Frequently asked questions

Will the timer keep running in another tab?

Yes. It uses the system clock, so it stays accurate, and the tab title shows the remaining time.

Why did I not hear the alarm?

Check that your volume is up and the tab is not muted. Some browsers block sound until you have clicked on the page once.

What is the pomodoro technique?

Work in focused 25-minute blocks separated by short breaks, with a longer break after four blocks. It helps maintain concentration and avoid burnout.
