About this tool
Add VAT: gross = net × (1 + rate ÷ 100). At 5%, 1,000 becomes 1,050. Remove VAT: net = gross ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100). The VAT inside 1,050 at 5% is 50. A common mistake is to subtract 5% of the gross (52.50), which overstates the VAT.
Presets show each country's standard rate as known when this page was written; they are a convenience, not an official source. Many countries have reduced or zero rates for certain goods and services, and rates change, so confirm with the relevant authority (in the UAE, the Federal Tax Authority) for invoices.
Good to know
- Standard rates only; reduced, zero-rated and exempt items are not covered.
- Not tax advice. Check current rates with your tax authority.
