About this tool

Select Record and your browser asks for permission to use the microphone. Audio is recorded on your device in the browser's native compressed format (WebM/Opus in Chrome, Edge and Firefox; MP4/AAC in Safari), which keeps files small. Choose WAV when you need an uncompressed file for editing software, transcription services or older devices.

"Reduce background noise and echo" turns on the browser's voice processing, which is good for speech. Turn it off to record music or ambient sound as faithfully as possible.

Good to know

  • Recordings are kept only while this tab is open; download the ones you want to keep.
  • WAV files are large (about 5 MB per minute in mono at 44.1 kHz).
  • MP3 export is not available.

Frequently asked questions

Is my recording uploaded?

No. Audio is captured and stored in your browser only, and saved to your device when you download it.

How do I allow microphone access?

When the browser asks, choose Allow. If you blocked it earlier, click the microphone or lock icon in the address bar to change the setting, then reload the page.

Can I save as MP3?

Not yet. Save as WAV, which almost every app accepts, or use the smaller default format.
